I see three patterns that consistently undermine trust development:
The Overconfidence Trap: AI systems that don't communicate uncertainty effectively lead users to over-rely on recommendations. Users accept AI suggestions without review, then experience surprise when recommendations prove incorrect. The solution isn't more accurate AI but better uncertainty communication that matches expressed confidence to actual reliability.
The Black Box Problem: When AI reasoning isn't transparent, users develop learned helplessness. They follow AI guidance but lose ability to exercise judgment. The system might be technically accurate, but users can't build competence working with it. Trust requires understanding, not just correct outputs.
